View From Wal-Mart Parking Lot at Sunrise

A couple of weeks ago, Jim and I pulled into the Wal-Mart parking lot as the sun was coming up.  The sky was so spectacular that we both jumped out of the car and started taking pictures like crazy.  The sky was changing by the minute.  I painted this from one of the photos.  I'm going to darken the palm tree and try to fix the lights on the houses at the base of the mountains.  I used masking fluid to block them out and I think they are in too much of a straight, slanted line.  I had fun with this and that's the important thing, right?

It's on 11" x 15" 140 lb Arches cold press watercolor paper.

What a blessing it was, I bet, to behold that gorgeous sky. It certainly translated into a gorgeous painting (the sky, the tree, the mountains - nicer than you think...)!

Thank you, Padmaja! I played around with the lights a little more, but I still don't have them quite right.

Beautiful Candy. Don't you love when you spot something so beautiful in a spot you least expected?

Thank you, Carol! Yes, I do. I've learned to carry my camera with me at all times. You just never know...

Candy-
Nice work! I love painting sunsets- but they can really be tough! See- I am back! Took me a while, but I just sat down and posted something. Now, its time to look around at some of my favorite artists and what they are up to. Thanks again for checking up on me.

Lovely colours!Sunsets and sunrises are difficult, I´m struggling with them. I am trying to study the colours in reality to make the right choses. But sunrises are a problem for me; I like to sleep late ;)

Thank you Catharina! We would love to sleep late, but we have to get up early to walk our dog:) We make up for it by going to bed early:)
