Watercolor and Pastels

I took Chris Lally's advice and added some pastels to my watercolor floral.  Thank you, Chris!  The same day she made that suggestion, I got a newsletter featuring Tom Perkinson who does exactly that.  Wow!  After you have a chance to check out Tom's work, be kind when you look at mine:)  Here is a link: Tom Perkinson.  Plus he's a desert guy!  Like me!  (Except I'm a girl.)  His work absolutely glows!  I probably shouldn't have put a link to his art in a separate post, but I have no pride:)
I'm not done, but here's what I've been playing with.

Candy, this is so very good.. I do like the addition of pastels, and have seen many artists that do this ..If it works ,,, do it' ! I've done it on a few paintings that I thought were failures and wanted to perk up.. They looked better. Meh! (I think). lol

Beautiful! Glad you did not give him.
Tom Parkinson - whew! Thanks for the link. Yes, his stuff glows.

Hi, Barbra Joan! Thank you! I think that's it - the pastel colors are so vibrant that they can perk up a painting if it needs it.

Hi, Chris! Thank you! I'm so happy you enjoyed the link.

How beautiful!! I have never been comfortable with the heaviness and weight of pastels but I have taken colored pencil to some of my pieces and it always seemed to help.

Thank you! Sherry, I hadn't thought about pastels in ages. When Chris made her suggestion, I dug through boxes and sure enough - I found my set of pastels. I also found a set of watercolor pencils that Jim had bought for me years ago. I started playing with the pencils today. It's such fun to go through closets and find supplies that you haven't used in a long time. It's like Christmas in June!

Very pretty - good idea about the pastels. Never have worked with them and would like to try that some day.

Thank you, Sandy! They're fun to play with. You should go for it.

Candy I have used pastel over watercolor several times. They make a great team. In fact many pastel artists use watercolor as an upderpainting for their work. This certainly turned out lovely.

Thank you, Debbie! I just finished another one. I thought I'd ruined a watercolor, so I got the pastels out again and I think it looks better:)
