This morning Jim and I took Georgie for a walk. It was sweatshirt weather - cool but not cold. It was raining softly. While we walked, we talked about how small things can make memories that last a lifetime. About 6 years ago, we went to see Barbara Cook at the Cabaret Jazz Room at the Smith Center. We sat at table 13. There was another couple seated at the table - Charlotte and Walt. They were an absolute delight. They told us about how Walt had worked on the prototype of the Chevrolet Corvette, which was top secret at the time. The guys took it out for a test drive and got chased by the police, pulled in to the building they worked in and took the Corvette up in the elevator and kept it hidden. They told other stories. I wish I could tell the stories as well as they did. We all loved Barbara Cook. We ended the evening by making a pact that if she ever came back to Cabaret Jazz, we would get tickets for table 13 and sit together again.
I am grateful for the opportunities that I've had in my life - finding friends in the most surprising places like Cabaret Jazz, the Internet, the classroom both as a teacher and as a student and at various jobs I've had. I love my family and friends. Life is so sweet. Happy Thanksgiving!
