Is this Las Vegas or San Diego?

We have had the most fabulous weather for the last three weeks. The nights have been cool (in the sixties) and the days have been perfect (seventies and eighties). The reason I'm commenting on this is that it's usually in the nineties and even a hundred by now. It's been so nice in the mornings when we walk Briscoe and Rosie. I feel like I could walk forever.

We're going to Tucson this weekend. I'll be taking some pictures. I love the desert around Tucson. I love it here, too, but the vegetation in Tucson is different. It'll be fun to get some photos of the cacti there.

I took the back roads to Summit yesterday. The road is deserted, narrow and the trees hang over the road and touch at the top in some spots. I have never seen so many deer and other wildlife on one drive before. You and Jim should drive out that way when you are up here in July. It's beautiful...

We'll do that. I bet we can get some nice pictures that I can use as reference photos. I told Jim that the first thing I want to do when we get there is go to Wisconsin Point and splash around in Lake Superior. The second thing is to eat a Shamrock pizza.

Hi Candy,

Thanks for leaving such a lovely note on my doorstep this morning!

A couple of years ago I booked a 2 week vacation and went to Tucson. I usually only take 1 week off work, so this was a big deal for me. I live in a temporal rain forest, so I'm surrounded by rampant lushness. As I was driving from the airport to my accommodations, I kept thinking..."Oh no! What have I done? I've wasted 2 weeks of my vacation in this desolate wasteland!"

I got up the next morning and went for a long walk. I didn't take long for me to fall in love with the subtle beauty of the desert landscape, the jackrabbits peering at me from a distance, and the beautiful colours. I'm quite smitten with the area now.

Enjoy your trip!

Carolynn, I feel the same as you do about the desert. I love the beauty of places like northern Wisconsin, Washington and Vancouver Island (which we visited on Spring Break), but I also love the desert. I had a friend come out for a visit from Minnesota. I thought I was giving her a special treat by taking her out to Red Rock Canyon, which is on the outskirts of Las Vegas. It's a gorgeous place. The colors are spectacular. On the way back to town, she said, "All you have here is a bunch of dust." I thought that was pretty funny. She just didn't get it.

Joan, thank you for encouraging me to post more of my art. I'm going to do just that.
