In the book I finished called Young Las Vegas, they talk about how the burrows came to Vegas. They ended up reproducing at terribly quick rate, and they used to have to put them down because they would overrun the town.
Randi, thanks for the mention of the book. We're going to the library today. I think that usually when people have a problem with wildlife, the cause of the problem is people. Being a Las Vegas girl, I'd be willing to bet that in the "olden days", people didn't keep their garbage inaccessible to animals and they also probably fed them. These things encourage wild animals to enter space that they normally would avoid. You've probably seen all of the signs telling people out in Red Rock not to feed the burros. I think it's a $500.00 fine, but people do it anyway. Consequently, the burros aren't afraid of cars.
Sherry, I do love the expression on Smiley's face. I also like the expression on the one who looks like he's laughing.
These are great!!! Love the expression on the burro in the photo, bottom left, the little burro on the right with his eyes all squinched up (Blogger just underlined "squinched" letting me know it's not a real word... but it fits!)
Are you going to paint any of these? Would make a wonderful picture!
Hi, Teresa! Yep, I'm going to paint them. I'm working on a city scene right now. Next will be a rooster and then the burros. "Squinched" is an excellent word:)
Lucinda, I'd love to have one, too. I'd also like a little pink pig. I think our dogs and cats would like to have some new siblings, but, like you, we're city dwellers:)

Oh they look so sweet indeed, Candy. In the bottom photo, the one on the right looks like he is smiling to beat the band!

They are so delightful - and such expressive faces! You could swear a couple of them are grinning right back at you :)
The main reason that burros were such pests in the old days was that they were terrific card counters!!!
Pat, I just love them.
Jimmm, I never knew...
Saw your post on Pat's blog and noticed you live in Vegas- one of my sons lives there. Love your work!

Ohhh great photos!
They are adorable! I want one! I don't think it would go over so well in my hollywood apartment building, though. Hmm. So cute.
Thank you, Sandy!
